Medical Update: Good News!

Scan days are always filled with a dose of anxiety.  I've had countless MRI scans over the past 11 years, and the angst has remained constant.  I don't have any problem with the MRI itself...in fact I have no problem falling asleep in the machine as I match the rhythms of the magnetic pulses to …

Radiation Complete…Gratitude and Next Steps

Everyone has been asking me how does it feel to be done with radiation...Are you excited to be done?  I don't really know how to answer.  It's strange.  I'm finishing the first major step of my treatment, and after 6 weeks of going in for radiation 5 days a week, I can finally move on to a …

Update – 1 week to go!

I haven't posted any updates recently because I have been feeling pretty fatigued from the proton therapy treatments, but I wanted to check in so that everyone knew that I am doing well...and bald (a.k.a. no longer have the ridiculous monk-cut). The fatigue is a normal side-effect from the proton treatments.  I've been experiencing two …

Wacky Haircut Fundraiser for Brain Tumor Research!

Update:  1 day to go! Halfway through proton treatment, and the time has come...for the hair to go! This is a common side effect of the proton treatments since the hair follicles receive a high dose of radiation.  The skin has started to get a bit more irritated, and this week the first of many …

Medical Update 4: Day 1…Treatment Begins

Nothing like a cold blizzard to start off my first day of treatment! Today was my first day of proton therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital's Burr Proton Center, the first place in the world to perform proton therapy on patients.  It started at Harvard, and was later moved to MGH...but needless to say, they are the experts!  …

Country stars like @thetimmcgraw are part of the re-imagining end-of-life movement too! We’re all part of this movement because we all face mortality. Tim McGraw is partnering with @narushealth #endwell19 #country #countrymusic #mortality #hospice #cancer #collaboration #palliativecare #innovation #partnership
@meghanmccain talking about the loss of her father @senjohnmccain, dealing with mortality, and grief. As a brain cancer patient, thank you for sharing. #endwell19 #braincancer #grief #mortality #death #braincancerawareness
I’m excited to share that I am now a regular contributor for @curetoday, one of the largest cancer publications in the United States. I’m looking forward to this partnership and opportunity to reach a wider audience! Perhaps best of all is that I get to be animated😉! #bucketlist #cancer #braintumor #braincancer #cancerawareness #writing #writingcommunity
With all my treatments and medications it’s easy to get too fatigued to make a decent meal. I’ve been loosing weight recently, so my mom sent me @barilla protein-fortified pasta. I decided to add a ton of garlic, chicken, broccoli, and sauce to make a delicious high-carb, high-protein meal! #nutrition #braintumor #braincancer #cancer #pasta
Excited to serve as an ePatient Ambassador once again for @endwellsf. Last year was a transformational experience that inspired me to pursue palliative care advocacy, including rotations with an amazing pediatric palliative care attending. All families deserve palliative care. Link in bio to read the full article.
One year of immunotherapy infusions complete. People often ask me how many rounds I have left, and I don’t have an answer. In theory, the best case scenario is that I’ll receive these treatments every three weeks indefinitely since stopping means the treatment isn’t holding back my tumor.
